B.Voc stands for Bachelors in Vocational studies which is an emerging course in our country. This course aims at allowing an individual to acquire skills for a particular trade. These are non-academic. The course deals with application based studies rather than depending on theoretical knowledge completely. Vocational studies cover a wide range of fields. Some of these fields include health care, creative fields like graphic designing and web designing, food technology. It is also provided in skills trade including plumbing, automotive repair and many more.
The course specializes on providing practical training, and hence is can be regarded as a skill development degree
It is important for our country as our government has launched a special scheme of “Skill India”. Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana or PMKVY is the flagship programme of the Govt. of India, Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship (MSDE) that enables Indian youth to indulge in skill related or industry related training which will be beneficial for them. It provides short term training to the youth.
Therefore, acquiring skills through learning is a significant aspect in today’s education scenario.
Bachelor in Vocation is a three year undergraduate course. Eligibility for this course is successful completion of class 12th in any stream from a recognized board.
The course helps the individuals to grow and learn professionally.
Apart from it, students after 10th standard can also opt for short term or long term courses like diplomas and degrees. Thus, vocational studies are a diverse field. However, B.Voc course is a full time degree and it cannot be taken as an add-on programme.
The age limit for this course is 16-45 years.
There was a long felt need to align higher education with the needs of the Indian economy, which could be only fulfilled by allowing the youth or individuals of our country to indulge into a course that would not only enhance their knowledge in the respective field but would also provide them with the required skill and practical knowledge that would help them to acquire jobs as per their requirement in the long run.

- Voc. the course is introduced by University Grants Commission with the objective to impart adequate knowledgeand skills for employment and entrepreneurship to graduates of the higher education system.
- Bachelor of Vocational Studies [B.Voc] is divided into six semesters, each of 15 weeks including assessment.
- In addition, all students are expected to undergo industrial training / project work for 4-8 weeks every semester that may continue partly during summer / winter breaks.
- All students should undergo bridge course programof 180 hrs duration in each semester for the first two semesters along with level 5 regular courses.

The certification levels will lead to Diploma/Advanced Diploma/B. Voc. Degree in one or more vocational areas and will be offered under the aegis of the GGS IP University.

B. Voc. Degree – After completion of 3 Years.
The vocational education with a component of long duration of ‘on the job training’, definitely has a higher potential for jobs. However, short -term skill training programs may not be sufficient to equip the student for a job in the related field. Skill development requires long term practical training and most of the technical skills cannot be acquired in a short duration.
The CCSD model of vocational education is a Work Integrated Training model where more time is spent on ‘on the job training’, in an industry or company and comparatively less time is spent in classroom teaching. This kind of vocational courses can have better job prospects after completion of the course.
Many industries are coming forward to partner in the vocational training of young people by giving them an opportunity as apprentices, trainees, or as students under the National Employability Enhancement Mission (NEEM) scheme.
The CCSD has been able to engage leading industries from Faridabad, Gurrugram, NCR Delhi for various job-profiles. These are many examples where B.Voc students of CCSD are placed for work experience.
They not only give them the opportunity to learn on the job but also give a stipend for the work they do. Thus the Industry response can be good if the vocational training is addressing their needs for skilled manpower.
The student has to decide a few fields or sectors in which he/she would like to work. Then, he/she should look for vocational courses that are long term, give him/her a certificate from a recognized Institute or University, and have a component of on the job training as a part of the course. He/she should talk to past students or a few people working in the field of his choice and understand prospects or advantages as well as problems of working in that field.
The students should make an informed choice and not take an impulsive decision while choosing a course.
The vocational courses after SSC or HSC are of two types. Diploma courses offered through the ITIs or other vocational training Institutions or B. Voc.
Degree courses offered by colleges or universities in different sectors. Here again it is important to note that most of the vocational courses are offered within the premises of the institutes and there may be a component of internship in a related industry for a short period.
One needs to check whether there is a internship opportunity of a longer duration as a part of the course. For example-the CCSD offers all the vocational courses through a Industry Integrated Training / placement approach where more emphasis is given to on the job training as compared to the classroom teaching. As a result, by the time the student completes the B.Voc. Degree course of three years, he/she has a work experience of three years and therefore they are definitely ready for a job in a related industry.
